Three people were killed and two sustained serious injuries following a violent clash between two groups near the Malmalia overbridge in Bihar’s Siwan district on Friday evening, police said.
According to the Siwan Superintendent of Police, Manoj Kumar Tiwari, the incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Bhagwanpur Haat police station. “Preliminary investigation suggests the violence was triggered by an old personal dispute between two groups. We are investigating further and looking into all possible angles,” Tiwari said.
Police sources said the assailants used a vehicle to run over some of the victims and also attacked them with swords. The injured were taken to Siwan Sadar Hospital, where they are receiving medical care, police said.
Following the incident, residents staged a protest, blocking the main road and setting a motorcycle on fire.
“The situation is under control right now. We have increased patrolling as a precautionary measure,” an officer said.
Police said the suspects are being identified and raids are being conducted to apprehend those involved.
RJD leader and ex-Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav attacked the Bihar government with a post on X: “Massacre in Bihar! Six people shot dead in Siwan! Three died on the spot! Law and order has collapsed under the leadership of the unconscious Chief Minister!”
