At least 30 people were injured, 10 of them critically, after a cluster of houses caught fire Saturday morning at Shahganj in Bihar’s Aurangabad. According to preliminary probe, the fire was triggered by a cylinder blast. The injured include some policemen who were helping the fire brigade in extinguishing the flames.
Police said the fire broke out when an LPG cylinder exploded at the home of Anil Goswami at 2.30 am when the family was engaged in cooking ‘prasad’ for the four-day Chhath festival which began Friday. The fire soon spread to the adjacent houses. Initially the residents tried to douse the flames, but were unsuccessful. Several residents of the area were injured as most of them were sleeping at the time of the fire.
The injured were admitted to the Sadar Hospital and other clinics. Condition of 10 people was critical. Police said, “Though the exact reason of fire is yet to be ascertained, prima facie, cylinder blast looks to be the reason behind the fire.”
