Sainath Durge, an office-bearer of Shiv Sena UBT leader Aaditya Thackeray’s Yuva Sena, has been questioned by police over a video featuring MLA Prakash Surve and former Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation corporator Sheetal Mhatre.
A video that purportedly showed the MLA of the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction kissing Mhatre, who is also the party spokesperson, went viral online on Sunday. The Dahisar police on Monday arrested Vinayak Davre, who handles the Facebook page of Matoshree, and Ravindra Choudhari. On Sunday they arrested Manas Kunwar (26) and Ashok Mishra (45), the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena’s up-vibhag pramukh in Andheri east.
Pravin Patil, senior inspector of the Dahisar station, said, “We have arrested two more persons, bringing the total arrests in the case to four. They were produced before a court and remanded in police custody till March 15.”
Durge is considered to be a close aide of Aaditya and has been associated with Yuva Sena, the youth wing of the latter’s party, since 2015. He was a member of the Mumbai senate and also a member of the Yuva Sena executive.
A staunch follower of Sena founder Bal Thackeray, Durge was the vice-president of the student wing of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena of Raj Thackeray, Uddhav’s estranged cousin.
Durge was associated with the MNS Vidyarthi Sena till 2015, when he joined the Yuva Sena in the presence of Aaditya, stating that he was inspired by the latter’s style of functioning and leadership.
