While stating that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj were idols in Maharashtra, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said Monday that attempts to glorify Mughal ruler Aurangzeb would not be tolerated.

“If anybody is trying to wave Aurangzeb’s photos in public, it will not be tolerated,” Fadnavis told reporters at Nagpur, referring to an incident at Sambhaji Nagar, formerly Aurangabad, where people displayed a picture of the Mughal ruler and started dancing.

Commenting on the Opposition criticism over his Delhi visit to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Fadnavis said, “Those questioning us about our Delhi visit themselves have to seek permission for everything including daily morning routines.”

Fadnavis said that the BJP was a national party. “What is wrong if we visit our central leadership for a meeting in Delhi?” he asked.

Responding to a question on the cabinet, the BJP leader said, “CM Eknath Shinde will decide when to conduct the cabinet expansion. We held a detailed discussion (yesterday) on the strategy to ensure coordination between our two parties—the BJP and the Shiv Sena—at the district level.
