The trial run of the Vande Bharat train on the Mumbai-Goa route started Tuesday. A Konkan Railway official, however, said they were yet to ascertain how much less time the Vande Bharat train would take to cover the distance vis-à-vis other express trains.
At present, a total of 40 pairs of trains ply daily on the Mumbai-Goa route. The list includes the Tejas Express, which takes 8 hours and 20 minutes to complete a one-way trip.
An official from the Railway Board, Delhi said the Vande Bharat is expected to begin commercial services on the Mumbai-Goa route in June.
However, it is not known yet how long the trial runs would continue.
As of now, Mumbai has three Vande Bharat trains – one to Shirdi, another to Solapur, and the third to Gandhinagar. All three trains are seeing over 70 per cent occupancy daily.
