Chilling Mumbai murder: Upset over girl ending relationship, man chases and stabs her to death, then dies by suicide

The woman ran into a nearby nursing home in Kalachowki to escape the man, but he followed her and stabbed her multiple times, leading to her death, the police said.

Upset over his former girlfriend ending their relationship and suspecting her of seeing another man, a 24-year-old man in Mumbai allegedly stabbed her multiple times, leading to her death, before dying by suicide on Friday, the police said.

The police identified the accused as Sonu Barai, an unemployed man who stayed in the Ambewadi area of Kalachowki along with his parents, and the victim as Manisha Yadav. Barai and Yadav stayed in the same neighbourhood and were in a relationship for a few years, the police said.

The incident occurred around 11 am on Friday when the duo allegedly met to discuss their relationship, which Yadav ended two weeks ago.

Barai was upset and was carrying a kitchen knife in his pocket when he met Yadav near Digvijay Mill situated at Dattaram Lad Marg in Kalachowki, the police said. When he started stabbing her in a fit of rage, Yadav rushed inside the nearby Aastha Maternity and Surgical Nursing Home, as its doors were open, the police said. Barai allegedly followed her inside the clinic and stabbed her again. He later died by suicide, R Ragasudha, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Zone 4, said.

Hearing Yadav’s screams, people gathered on the road. The police reached the spot, and Yadav was rushed to a nearby hospital. She was later shifted to JJ Hospital, where she died during treatment.

Barai was rushed to KEM Hospital, where he was declared dead.

The Kalachowki police are conducting a panchnama of the crime scene, and the process of registering a First Information Report is on.

A senior police official said, “The girl has died during treatment and we are adding relevant sections under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.”

The police will also record the statements of both the families and others related to the incident to ascertain the facts behind the incident.
