State government to honour Sachin

The panel is to hold a meeting on November 12.

Mumbai: The state government has decided to honour master blaster Sachin Tendulkar,but the ministers are divided on the timing of the felicitation.

Sources said some favour holding the felicitation during the Wankhede Test match,which commences on November 14 and is the batting legend’s 200th and final test match appearance.

On Thursday,the state government appointed a five-member panel to work out the nature of felicitation,its timing and venue. The panel will be headed by CM Prithviraj Chavan and will also have Deputy CM Ajit Pawar and Sports Minister Padmakar Walvi as members. Senior state officials said the panel will also consult the batting legend himself. In fact,the government has already sent a message to him in this regard.
