Beer bottles found on the crime scene led the Wadala police to four persons who allegedly sexually assaulted and killed a six-year-old boy in 2015. The body was found in a hollow space between girders supporting the Eastern Freeway at Wadala.

The boy had been reported missing on October 15, 2015, when he was last seen playing outside his house at Indira Nagar in Wadala. When he did not return home, his father approached the Wadala police, which registered a missing persons complaint.

For nearly two months, the father kept looking for the boy across the city – from shelter homes to hospitals. The police, too, could not track him down.

Eventually, on December 23, 2015, the missing persons case turned into a murder case. The body of the boy was found when three technicians reached the freeway to fix a broken cable that had caused signal failure across Sewree Koliwada and Wadala. While looking for the wires, one of the technicians spotted the body and contacted the local police.

Suspecting the body to be of the six-year-old, the police called his father, who identified the body with the help of the clothes he was wearing. The police found some broken beer bottles, a few snuffed beedis and a blade on the spot. Based on medical reports, it was found that the boy had been sexually assaulted and then murdered.

Following this, the police started looking for the wholesaler of the beer bottles. This led them to a shop selling beer in Wadala. The police claimed that after questioning the owner of the shop from where the bottles were purchased, the police arrested four men from Indira Nagar slum.

The police claimed that the four men, all labourers, were drunk on the day they kidnapped the boy. They allegedly lured him with chocolate and took him to the Wadala bridge. There, they got drunk and sexually assaulted the child. Later, they strangulated him to death, and left after hiding his body.

The trial in the case is underway, said police.
