Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday said the party is open to the idea of forging an alliance with the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), indicating a potential thaw in relations between the estranged Thackeray cousins.
“Uddhavji’s stand on an alliance with Raj Thackeray is both manase (from the heart) and dil se,” Raut told reporters in Mumbai, adding that the Shiv Sena (UBT) maintains a “positive approach” towards a tie-up with MNS in the interest of Marathi people.
“Uddhav Thackeray is not averse to taking a positive step towards MNS,” Raut added.
Speculation around a possible rapprochement between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray has been circulating in Maharashtra’s political circles for weeks. The buzz intensified recently after Raj Thackeray, in an interview with filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar, spoke about the possibility of an alliance. Uddhav Thackeray responded favourably to the suggestion shortly after.
While no formal talks have been confirmed, leaders from both parties have dropped hints suggesting that discussions may be underway behind the scenes.
