The Shiv Sena wants to set up branches of Balasaheb Thackeray IAS academy in municipal schools to increase the number of Marathi students clearing the civil service entrance exams. The Sena has also said a magazine published by the academy for competitive exams should be made available in all civic schools.

Sena leaders said there are very few Maharashtrians in administrative services. Sena corporator Yamini Jadhav moved the proposal after she received a letter from Vijay Kadam, founder director of the academy. It was discussed in the recently held group leaders meeting.

“We want the academy centre to be started in all municipal schools. Initially, it can be started in schools having virtual classrooms. Also, five to six copies of Shivdhanushya, a monthly magazine published by the academy, can be kept in each school for students to read it,” Jadhav told The Indian Express.

Kadam said he intends to start as many centres as possible to increase the number of Maharashtrians in civil services. “We want to see a civic school student becoming the BMC commissioner . In Maharashtra, the students clear the exams at the age of 28. Also, very few Maharashtrain students clear the exams. In other states, the students clear the civil services exams at the age of 21 or 22,” said Kadam, who is also the deputy leader of the Shiv Sena.

He further said that the main obstacles faced by the students in urban and rural areas are fear, lack of knowledge and confidence. “So, it would be good to start the academy centre, which will help a lot of students, both urban and rural. It will also lead to a rise in the number of Maharashtrian students clearing the IAS, IPS and IFS,” added Kadam.
