Shipping firm told to pay Rs 6.42 lakh

The firm has been accused of wrongly shipping fabric consignments meant for Jeddah to Dubai port.

Eight years after a complaint was filed, a consumer forum has directed a shipping company to shell out Rs 6.42 lakh for wrongly shipping fabric consignments meant for Jeddah to Dubai port. According to the Kalbadevi-based complainant, Rishab Impex, six out of 11 packages meant for Jeddah were cross-stuffed in the ship for Dubai by the shipping agency Safewater Lines in March, 2006. The forum has asked the company to compensate at the rate of 6 per cent per annum from 2007.
