The Shiv Sena on Thursday demanded reservation in government jobs for family members of farmers who committed suicide. The demand comes at a time when Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is on a tour to areas in the state facing farm distress.
Shiv Sena leader and Transport Minister Diwakar Raote said he had taken an initiative in his department to give priority in recruitment to people from such families.
“I discussed this with Uddhavji (Uddhav Thackeray). He approved of the initiative. I discussed it with the Maharashtra CM, who also liked it,” Raote told the media on Thursday. Raote is seeking a replication of the move in all the departments.

“While I have taken a decision for my department, I would like the state’s general administration department (GAD) to take a decision in this regard for all departments,” Raote said, adding that he would write to Fadnavis in this regard.
Raote said he had discussed the issue with Chief Secretary Swadheen Kshatriya.
Speaking about enforcing the tobacco ban, Raote said those recruited as drivers in the State Transport Corporation will sign an affidavit stating they would not consume tobacco in any form during duty hours, or any drug.
