Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena (UBT) Friday demanded the Maharashtra government to immediately stop the soil testing process and land acquisition for the petrochemical refinery project at Barsu-Solgaon village in the coastal Ratnagiri district. He said that his party workers will in full swing go into a protest mode at Barsu in the Konkan belt if the government fails to stop the survey and acquisition.

Raut said that the Sena (UBT)’s Lok Sabha MP from Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg Vinayak Raut, is already on the ground and Sena president Uddhav Thackeray has explained the party’s stand on the issue.

“A force is being used at Barsu on villagers. There are atrocities going on. Villagers’ land is being snatched. Shiv Sena demands that the government should immediately stop the land survey and acquisition. Or else Sena will enter into a protest with full force. Sena MP Vinayak Raut is already on the ground at Barsu,” the MP said.

On NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar’s statement on Barsu that the government must take the local villagers into confidence, Raut said, “Taking into confidence means what should be done? The locals do not have any faith and trust in the government.”

Raut said that the villagers of Konkan have taken to the streets and are not willing to withdraw the protest. “There is also a march in Barsu. Uddhavji has also clarified that he will visit Barsu. Instead of keeping the issue burning, the government should stop land acquisition and site survey. Without that there will be no peace in Konkan,” he said.

Former CM Uddhav Thackeray, who has drawn criticism for supporting anti-refinery protesters, Thursday said that though he allotted the land for the proposed petrochemical refinery project in Barsu-Solgaon village, his plan was to go ahead with the project only after getting consent from the local residents.

The government should declare a list of politicians who have purchased land in Barsu, or else the Sena MP Vinayak Raut will release it, Sanjay Raut said.

Raut alleged that the government is adamant about the Barsu site because of the politicians who have purchased land there.
