Amid an investigation into alleged threats received by actor Salman Khan, a 21-year-old man was detained in Rajasthan on Sunday. Dhakad Ram Bishnoi, the accused, allegedly sent the threatening email to the actor’s office recently.
The email was sent from Jodhpur, said Ishwar Chand Pareek, Station House Officer (SHO), Luni police station, Jodhpur. “Mumbai Police forwarded the information to Jodhpur Police. The email was sent by Dhakad Ram, a resident of Siyago ki Dhani in Jodhpur,” the SHO added.
Police claimed that Dhakad Ram also sent an email threatening to kill Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala’s father. As per SHO Pareek, a case under the Arms Act is also registered against him.
In a joint operation with Rajasthan Police, Mumbai Police detained the accused from Jodhpur. The accused was questioned in the matter, and will be brought to Mumbai, people aware of the developments said.
Earlier this month, Bandra Police filed an FIR against gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi, and Goldy Brar after an email was received by the actor’s office from a sender identified as Mohit Garg. The threat in the email referred to a recent interview that Bishnoi gave from Delhi’s Tihar jail. In the interview, he had claimed that the mission in his life was to “kill the actor”. The complaint was filed by Prashant Gunjalkar, a close friend of the actor.
The FIR was registered for offenses punishable under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 506(2) (criminal intimidation), and 34 (criminal act done by several persons with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
In June last year, a threat letter had been kept at a spot on Bandra bandstand where the actor’s father Salim Khan would walk. The threat letter had claimed that the actor too would meet the same fate as singer Sidhu Moosewala, who was shot dead.
