Shiv Sena UBT leader and MP Sanjay Raut Saturday said Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was given false information by Ratnagiri district collector about the lathicharge on the protesting villagers in Barsu Friday and demanded the ouster of the collector.
Raut said, “CM Shinde said that the district collector told him that there was no lathicharge on the protesters. But the truth is tear gas canisters were fired at the protestors and they were brutally lathicharged. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was given false information by the district collector who said nothing happened in Barsu. Either the Chief Minister is turning a blind eye or he has no control over the administration.”
Raut was referring to the protests by villagers, including the women and the youths, against a proposed oil refinery in Barsu.
“Devendra Fadnavis gave orders to force out the protesters but the people of Barsu have decided that they will die but won’t part with their land. In such a situation, it is necessary to hold discussions with the protesters but the government is behaving in an inhuman manner,” Raut said.
“There is no coordination between Chief Minister Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Fadnavis on the Barsu issue. An Islamic oil refinery company from Saudi Arabia is coming to Barsu and the Marathi people of Ratnagiri are being brutally assaulted for the Islamic oil company. This is their (BJP) Hindutva,” Raut said while hitting out at the Shinde-Fadnavis government.
On Opposition leader Ajit Pawar’s statement that there is a difference of opinion on the Barsu issue, Raut said, “There is no difference of opinion between us. When an order comes from Uddhav Thackeray, all differences of opinion end. All MLAs, MPs and office bearers are bound by the party’s decision.”
He also said that he will meet Thackeray Saturday and the further course of action, including visiting Barsu, will be decided in the meeting.
