Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday ordered the constitution of an inquiry committee headed by the Pune Joint Commissioner of Charity to investigate an incident at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune, which allegedly denied admission to a pregnant woman for not depositing Rs 10 lakh as advance.
The woman died at a different hospital following complications after giving birth to twin girls.
Tanisha Bhise in her early thirties died at Manipal Hospital at Baner in Pune on March 31, two days after she delivered twins at Surya Hospitals, Wakad, in Pune.
BJP MLC Amit Gorkhe said Tanisha was the wife of his secretary, Sushant. Gorkhe claimed Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital authorities refused to admit Tanisha. When contacted, Dr Dhananjay Kelkar, Medical Director, Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital, denied the allegations. In an official statement, he said the woman had been undergoing treatment at the hospital since 2020.
It said she underwent surgery for an ailment in 2022 and availed 50 per cent concession. In 2023, the hospital had cautioned her that any pregnancy would be high risk. They suggested she adopt a child.
