The Mumbai traffic police said they have implemented several measures to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of pedestrians Wednesday and Thursday, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his UK counterpart, Keir Starmer, visiting the city for two days.
PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Mumbai to inaugurate infrastructure projects and meet British Prime Minister Starmer.
PM Modi will inaugurate two major infrastructure projects — the Navi Mumbai International Airport and Phase 2B of the fully underground Mumbai Metro Line 3, connecting South Mumbai, on Wednesday, and attend the Global Fintech Fest 2025 at the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) with Starmer Thursday.
“Once the Global Fintech Fest is over in BKC, PM Modi will arrive at the airport. We do not require any diversion, and only a five-minute traffic halt will be enough to clear the movement”, said a traffic police officer.
Keir Starmer is already in Mumbai, and he has been staying at the Taj Hotel in South Mumbai. Prime Minister Modi will stay at Raj Bhavan.
Temporary restrictions in South Mumbai
There are no major traffic diversions in the city, but more than 1,000 traffic police personnel, along with local police officers, will be deployed, especially at places in South Mumbai and BKC, Thursday, to ensure the smooth flow of traffic.
Mumbai traffic police officers said the parking restrictions are temporary and have been put in place in South Mumbai from 12 pm to 7 pm Wednesday at Shahid Bhagatsingh Road, Nathalal Parekh Road, Captain Prakash Pethe Road, Rambhau Salgaonkar Road, General, and Jagannath Bhosale Road.
A slight diversion has also been made on Rambhau Salgaonkar Road, which is one way, but it will be opened for both ways for all types of vehicles on the stretch of Rambhau Salgaonkar Road from Indu Clinic Junction (Sayyed Jamadar Chowk) to Volga Chowk from 2 pm to 7 pm, said a traffic police officer.
Extra traffic police personnel will also be deployed at Marine Drive, Colaba and DB Marg area due to VVIP movement.
