SP MLA Rais Shaikh on Friday wrote to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde alleging that no scholarship money has been disbursed to minority community students in the 2022-23 academic year.

He also requested Shinde that a technical committee be set up to look into the scholarship scheme for minority students and also suggest ways for its better implementation in Maharashtra.

Shaikh wrote, “We would like to point out the shocking information about the scholarships of the minority community that the government is ignoring. As a representative of the people, I have raised questions in the House through motion of attention, highlighting that schemes are not reaching to the minority community. The (education) minister had assured me about giving justice to the minority community.”

He added that as per the Directorate of Higher Education in Pune, while 51 scholarships were disbursed during 2021-22 under the scheme, no scholarship has been disbursed in the 2022-2023 academic year.

Shaikh pointed out that when he inquired with the director (Technical Education), he was told that there is insufficient fund.
