Nine candidates file nomination for Lok Sabha polls in Mumbai on Monday

Mumbai has a total six constituencies which are divided into two different colleges - city and suburban.

With the nomination process for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections underway, a total of nine candidates filed their nominations on Monday. Those who submitted their nominations include nominees from mainstream political parties as well as independent entrants and candidates from small-regional parties.

Candidates who submitted nomination on Monday include two Shiv Sena (UBT) candidates – Aravind Sawant and Anil Desai, who are contesting from the Mumbai south and Mumbai South Central seats, and Shiv Sena’s (Eknath Shinde), Rahul Shewale who is also contesting from Mumbai South Central.

Besides these high profile candidates, multiple independent candidates also filed their nominations. From Mumbai south, two independent candidates including Dr. Mayuri Santosh Shinde and Sabiha Bano filed their nominations on Monday.

Another independent candidate – Baban Sopan Thoke filed his nomination from Mumbai North East, while another independent candidate – Rohan Ramdas Sathone filed his candidature from Mumbai’s North West constituency.

Meanwhile, from the Bahujan Mukti Party, Mohamed Mehtab Akhtar Hussain Sheikh filed his nomination from Mumbai south Central and Bhavani Heeralal Chaudhuri from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Party filed her nomination from Mumbai North East.

Meanwhile, data furnished by the officials showed that no nominations were filed from the Mumbai North and Mumbai North Central constituencies.

Mumbai has a total six constituencies which are divided into two different colleges – city and suburban. While two constituencies – Mumbai south and Mumbai south central fall under the city division, four constituencies – Mumbai North Central, Mumbai North East, Mumbai North West and Mumbai North fall under the jurisdiction of suburban collectorate.

Mumbai city has a total number of 24.59 lakh voters, while in the suburbs a total of 74 lakh voters have registered this year. While the voting for the six seats of Mumbai is scheduled on May 20, the last day for filing nominations is May 3.
