Mumbai recorded the lowest minimum (night) temperature in February since 2022, with the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Santacruz observatory recording 15 degrees Celsius, which was four degrees below normal.

In 2022, the city’s lowest night temperature for February was recorded at 14.8 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, weather officials said that in the coming week, the city may record a rise in temperature. “Over the past one week, Mumbai recorded a consistent dip in its daily temperature and we have hit the lowest mark, so it is possible that the temperature would go up gradually from this week,” said an IMD official.

On Saturday, Mumbai recorded a night temperature of 17.6 degrees Celsius.

The coastal observatory at Colaba recorded 19.5 degrees on Sunday, which was also two degrees below normal. The IMD officials said that the drop in temperature was a result of the northerly winds.

“Over the past one week, there has been a forecast of rain in north India, due to which cold northerly winds have been blowing from that direction. This could be a reason behind the current weather situation in Mumbai,” said the official.

Meanwhile, the IMD data also showed that Mumbai recorded a maximum (day) temperature of 35 degrees on Sunday, which was three degrees above normal, while the relative humidity stood at 60 per cent.
