A Delhi-based woman has been summoned by a magistrate court in Mumbai on a defamation complaint by the late actor-director Satish Kaushik’s wife. The woman had allegedly made statements to the media claiming that Kaushik, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest on March 9, was murdered by her estranged husband after a quarrel over a money dispute.

Kaushik’s wife Shashi said in her complaint filed last month that the medical reports had clearly concluded that his death was natural and no foul play was involved. The complaint said that the statements made by the woman were defamatory and made with the intention to cause irreparable damage to the reputation of Kaushik, who was a successful film director, screenwriter and actor.

The metropolitan magistrate in a recent order issued summons to the woman stating that there is a prima facie offence established as per documents submitted as part of the complaint by Shashi. The case will come up for hearing on June 15.
