A 34-year-old man was arrested late Saturday for forcefully throwing his three-month-old daughter on the floor, killing her, at their residence in Kurla.

According to police, the accused got angry after his wife allegedly slapped their eldest daughter for not eating, following which he allegedly picked up their infant from her lap and threw her on the floor.

The accused, identified as Parvez Siddiqui, lived with his wife Saba, their three daughters — aged five years, two-and-a-half years, and three months — his parents, three brothers, and their wives at LIG Colony in Kurla (West), police said.

They added that Parvez was unemployed, and was depending on the income of his three brothers, who work in a pharmaceutical company.

On February 14, after the brothers left for work, around noon, Saba was feeding their eldest daughter Daniya in their bedroom. “Parvez was also in the room as she held their three-month-old daughter Afiya on her lap,” said an officer.

When Daniya refused to eat, Saba lightly tapped her head, which angered her husband. An argument ensued and Parvez allegedly verbally abused and physically assaulted his wife.

“The couple later went to the living room, where the rest of the family was present. He kept abusing and assaulting the woman, after which he snatched Afiya from her lap, forcefully threw her on the floor, and left the house,” an officer said.

The accused’s mother picked up the infant when they noticed that she was unresponsive. The family rushed her to a private hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival.

The hospital authorities then reported the matter to police, after which Saba’s statement was recorded and a case of murder was registered.
A senior police officer said, “Parvez was traced and arrested from Kurla.”
