POCKETS OF suburban Mumbai and parts of Thane and Raigad districts recorded moderate rain on Thursday evening. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued yellow alerts for Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, Pune, Satara and Sangli districts.

While a yellow alert was issued for Mumbai on Wednesday, it was later withdrawn on Thursday. IMD officials said that the rains are happening due to moisture presence in the air.

“At present, there’s an easterly trough that has formed in the Arabian Sea, which has also led to the formation of moisture. This condition is contributing to the rainfall condition in MMR as the moisture is interacting with the high temperature,” said an official.

The air quality in the city improved significantly with the AQI standing at 103 Thursday morning. Of the 24 stations, several stations have recorded an AQI between 50 – 100 which falls in the category of satisfactory.
