Mumbai police Thursday arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly stalking and harassing a 15-year-old girl in the central suburbs of the city.
According to police, the accused had been following the girl for the past four to five days, prompting her to inform her mother, who then confronted him and took him to the police station.
An officer stated, “The girl takes a school bus, and she complained that the accused would loiter around the bus stop and stare at her.”
After the girl informed her mother, the latter went to the bus stop to confront the accused Wednesday but he did not appear. However, on Thursday, she returned to the bus stop and confronted him. The woman then escorted the man to the police station, where a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was subsequently arrested.
“He works as a driver and hails from Uttar Pradesh. We are investigating the motive behind the crime. He will be produced in court on Friday,” an officer added.
