THE OPPOSITION NCP (SP) on Sunday released its third list of candidates for the Assembly elections. The newly announced nine names bring the total number of candidates fielded by the Sharad Pawar-led party to 76.

The party has fielded Samajwadi Party leader and actor Swara Bhasker’s husband Fahad Ahmad in Anushaktinagar against Sana Malik of the Ajit Pawar-led NCP. The party candidate in the Karanja constituency in Vidarbha’s Washim district is former BJP MLA Rajendra Patni’s son Gyayak Patni.

Bhosari and Chinchwad, two key seats in Pune district that the Maha Vikas Aghadi has allotted to NCP (SP), will have Ajit Gavhane and Rahul Kalate, respectively, as the Opposition alliance’s picks in Maharashtra Assembly elections.

The party has fielded Siddhi Kadam, daughter of jailed former MLA Ramesh Kadam, in Mohol constituency of Solapur district.

Playing the Maratha card, the NCP (SP) has fielded Rajesahe Deshmukh against Agriculture Minister Dhananjay Munde for the Parli seat of Beed district, which is at the centre of the friction between Marathas and OBCs over the former’s demands for reservation.

Another Maratha, Mohan Jagtap, is the party’s candidate for Majalgaon seat of the same district.

The NCP (SP) has put up Atul Wandile and Ramesh Bang as its candidates in the Hinganghat and Hingna constituencies in Vidarbha, respectively.
