Shiv Sena (UBT) president and former Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray said Wednesday that the violence in Manipur and Haryana showed that the BJP could not run a government.
“Is this Ram Rajya? Be it Manipur or Haryana, what is happening? The way administration is done, the question that arises is whether the government exists there or not. What has happened with the double engine (a reference to the BJP ruling both in the state and at the centre)? Why is it burning? The ongoing violence in Haryana and Manipur is proof that the BJP cannot run the government,” Thackeray said in the Vidhan Bhavan.
Thackeray also criticised Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for calling Hindutva activist Sambhaji Bhide as “guruji”, asking if the BJP leader agreed with what Bhide had said, apparently referring to his controversial remarks about Mahatma Gandhi’s lineage.
“Also, if Fadnavis is calling Bhide as guruji, it should be said that whatever Bhide is saying is then right. Those who are ruling the state must speak out and tell us if they agree with what Bhide said.”
While speaking in the Assembly and the council earlier on Wednesday, Fadnavis addressed Bhide as “guruji”, drawing objection from the Opposition benches.
On Sharad Pawar’s speech at the Lokmanya Tilak Award ceremony in Pune where he shared the stage with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Thackeray said the NCP chief’s statement on the surgical strikes carried out by India on Pakistani soil had to be examined carefully.
The Pawar-led party is part of the Opposition alliance along with Thackeray’s Sena (UBT) and the Congress.
