Five days after a 12-year-old boy went missing while returning from school, he was found dead in the Mithi river. According to police, Ashwin Pandurang’s body was spotted in the river at Kurla by locals early on Thursday morning.
Police said they are probing how the minor was found in the opposite direction of his home. The minor is a resident of Kherwadi in Bandra (East). Kurla police were first informed of the body when locals contacted them about a boy in a school uniform lying near the river bed. “Ashwin’s parents registered a missing complaint at Kherwadi police station on Friday night. The complaint helped us identify the minor,” said an officer with Kurla Police Station.
Pandurang studied in class VII in Ramkrishna School in Bandra. “On Friday morning, he left for school at his normal time. When he did not return by evening, his parents approached police. We have sent the body for post mortem and once we have the report, we would conduct further investigations,” said a senior police officer.
Investigators said the body did not bear any marks of assault. “Depending on the findings of the post mortem report, we would register a case of either accidental death or murder,” the officer added.
