I dont care about looking beautiful anymore,I just want my job back, Preeti Rathi,25,a nurse from Delhi who fell victim to acid attack last week, wrote on a piece of paper Sunday. Ive struggled so hard for this post. I dont want to miss it, she wrote. A nursing graduate from Batra Hospital,Delhi,Preeti was to join the Army Medical College in Colaba as a lieutenant.
Preetis uncle Vinod Kumar Singh told Newsline that she had been pleading that she be allowed to take up the post on recovery.
Singh said Preeti was concerned about her family and asked her uncle to resume work in Delhi. She wrote that she did not want her cousins to suffer like her and wished them a good future.
Singh Monday urged AMC officials to visit Preeti in hospital to encourage her and lift her flagging spirit. He submitted an application to the AMC management, asking them to consider Preetis case.
Asked about the application,a Defence spokesperson in Mumbai said,We will check the status of her report and take a decision accordingly. As this is a different case,we need to discuss it thoroughly.
Preeti is still on ventilator at Masina Hospital in Byculla. Doctors have not indicated how long her recovery was likely to take.
Masina Hospital Director Dr R B Dastur said,There is slow improvement, but you cannot expect miraculous recovery in a case like this.
Preeti has already lost vision in her right eye and suffered severe burns on her body.
Preeti was attacked by an identified man minutes after she stepped off a train at Bandra Terminus last Thursday.
Preetis father Amarsingh Rathi, aunt Sunita and two male passengers were also injured in the attack.
So far, police have not been able to identify the attacker.
