With support from family, the woman commuter, who was allegedly chased and harassed by two bikers, came forward and registered an FIR on Tuesday. Following her complaint, the two offenders, identified as Ketan Talekar and Atul Thinghe, both working as clean up marshals were arrested and booked under Section 354 of the IPC.
The Bangur Nagar police had detained the two accused last week, but were yet to make an official arrest as the woman had not filed a police complaint.
Police on Tuesday recorded the womans statement at her residence as she was still in a state of shock.
The woman was travelling with her friend in an autorickshaw in Malad, when the two allegedly tried to stop the vehicle and passed lewd remarks. While the auto driver tried to control the situation, the womans friend had clicked a photograph of the two, which was later posted on a social networking site.
Last week police nabbed them after indentifying the BMC uniform the two were wearing in the photograph. The offenders claimed that they were following the auto driver following a tiff and not the commuter. They were let off with a warning.
Police said the woman was scared that they would attack her again and thus refrained from registering an FIR.
Officers who visited her at the residence say that her family stood by her. On Tuesday afternoon we received a call from the womans uncle saying that she wanted to register an FIR and was ready to pursue the case, said PSI Gaurakhnath Ghadge.
The two were presented before the Borivali court on Wednesday and were remanded in police custody.
Last week we had no evidence so we had to release them. However,we arrested them on Tuesday based on the womans FIR, he added.
