The Mumbai police Friday registered an FIR against the secretary of a housing society for allegedly sending e-mails containing obscene remarks against a member and his wife.

An officer said the accused allegedly used the society’s official e-mail address to send e-mails containing obscene content to 16 committee members.

The complainant further alleged that the accused had in the past also posted derogatory content on the society’s WhatsApp group, which has about 400 members.

According to the complainant, in 2023, a woman had complained that the accused had behaved inappropriately with her.

Based on the complaint received last week, the local police registered an FIR against the accused on charges of obscenity, defamation and misuse of electronic communication. An officer said that they are gathering evidence against the accused and will soon decide on the further course of action.
