This Diwali, Sujit Yadav, a Navi Mumbai driver, decided to take his family on an outing to the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. His one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Manasi, loved animals, and Sujit believed it would be the perfect way to celebrate the day. But the trip ended in tragedy for the Yadavs when a speeding bike hit Manasi, killing her instantly.

The incident took place on Wednesday. According to the police, Sujit, 30, who stays in Airoli and works as a driver in a transport company, his wife, daughter Manasi, and his 17-year-old nephew arrived at Sanjay Gandhi National Park in Borivali (East) on Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3.30 pm, they were sitting near the counter of the Tiger Safari to buy tickets, and Manasi was playing in the corner of the road when a speeding Royal Enfield Bullet from Tiger Cage Road hit her. She suffered injuries to her head and started bleeding, the police said. Sujit rushed her to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali, where she was declared dead on arrival, the police added.

The police identified the bike rider as Vinod Kevale, 37, who stays in the Rawalpada area of Borivali. The Kasturba Marg police registered a case against him for causing death due to rash and negligent driving and arrested him.

Kevale was identified after locals noted down his vehicle’s registration number as he fled the scene without offering assistance, a police officer said. The police also got his details from CCTV footage.
