In view of the incessant rain in Maharashtra and Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde Wednesday held a review meeting with the district collectors and instructed all the divisional commissioners, collectors, and the chief secretary to remain on alert.

Shinde also visited the Disaster Management Control Room of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

The Chief Minister said the disaster management system, such as the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), have been put on alert.

“All the emergency agencies — NDRF, SDRF and municipal corporations — are on alert mode. They are working on rescue operations to ensure the public gets proper facilities. Since this morning I am in contact with the secretaries and the DMs and people are being shifted to safer places. I have also instructed the BMC Commissioner to ensure that the number of people stuck in Mumbai is reduced and assure people that they will get back home safely and those who are stuck will be rescued,” CM Shinde said.

Shinde also ordered all government offices to allow its officers and staff to leave early on Wednesday keeping in view the heavy rain alert in Maharashtra.

Shinde also appealed to the people to not go out unless there is an emergency and to stay in safe places.
