In a warning for fishermen, the IMD said: “Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Maharashtra and south Gujarat coasts and over east central and adjoining northeast the Arabian Sea from October 15 for the subsequent three days.”

Since June, Maharashtra has received 1,129.3 mm rainfall as compared to the normal 1,036.3 mm. All the six revenue divisions have received as much as 100 per cent normal rainfall and dams across the state have reported good water levels.

The state received 1,053.3 mm rainfall from June 1 to September 16 as compared to the average of 926.6 mm for the period. Marathwada, which has been at the epicentre of drought, too, recorded excess rainfall since the onset of the southwest monsoons.

As much as 89 per cent of the annual rainfall that Maharashtra receives is between June and September, which is the southwest monsoon season. Of this, highest rainfall is received during July (33 per cent) and August (28 per cent).
