Two unidentified bike-borne assailants fired atleast five rounds at a 48-year-old garbage collection contractor in Navi Mumbai on Friday morning. Contractor Rajaram Thoke sustained four bullet injuries to his legs and shoulder but survived the incident.
A police officer said the incident took place around 9.30am near D-Mart in Sanpada where Thoke, a resident of Ghatkopar, was having tea. He had come to work there as he has a contract for garbage collection at the APMC market in Navi Mumbai.
Two men, one in a helmet and another wearing a cap, came on a bike and fired five rounds at him, four of which hit Thoke. The duo fled the spot and Thoke was rushed to a local hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
An officer said based on Thoke’s statement, they found out that the attack on him was the fallout of a business dispute. “We are on track and should be able to nab the accused soon,” said an officer from Navi Mumbai police.
