Newly sworn-in ministers Chhagan Bhujbal and Dhananjay Munde, belonging to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Ajit Pawar, allegedly received threat calls following which police arrested one person from Mahad. Police in Pune and Beed have registered cases in this regard.
According to police, on Monday night, when Munde was at home in Parli, Beed, he received the call. The caller told him that he had got a supari (contract) to kill Munde and demanded Rs 50 lakh for not killing him.
Following this, a case was lodged at the Parli city police station.
Similarly, Bhujbal too had recently received death threats by a person when he was in Pune for a political event. The person had called on the cell phone of the personal assistant of Bhujbal. The recorded audio clip of the threat call to Bhujbal has surfaced on social media.
Following this a case was registered at the Koregaon Park police station.
Later, the Pune police traced the suspect Prashant Patil from Mahad in Raigad district. Patil is a Kolhapur resident and told the police that he was in an inebriated state while making the calls.
Police said that he confessed to have made the calls to Munde as well. Parli city police may take his custody. Bhujbal and Munde were sworn in as ministers in the Shinde Fadnavis government on July 2 along with six other MLAs of the NCP led by Ajit Pawar.
