Ahead of the local bodies elections, the Opposition parties are trying to build a fake narrative of vote fraud, which needs to be effectively countered across Maharashtra, state BJP president Ravindra Chavan said on Saturday. He also slammed Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray and MNS president Raj Thackeray for misleading people through emotive issues of “Marathi Asmita (pride)”.
The BJP on Saturday organised a ‘Muk Morcha’ at Girgaum Chowpatty to counter the Opposition’s ‘Satyacha Morcha’ held outside the BMC headquarters in Mumbai.
Addressing the gathering, Chavan said, “In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Opposition came out with a fake narrative – Save Constitution. Now, they are working with the same mindset to discredit the ruling BJP with a new fake vote fraud narrative. From booth level, the karyakartas (activists) should reach out to people and explain the BJP’s side.”
“The Mahayuti government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has done remarkable developmental work in Maharashtra. The government is trying to fulfill the aspirations and accomplish the dream of every citizen living in Maharashtra. Unfortunately, Opposition parties (Maha Vikas Aghadi) are trying to generate unrest and anarchy through fabricated narratives,” Chavan said.
“The Opposition is using external and foreign funds to spread lies against the government. They are trying to destabilise ruling dispensations and scuttle the development work in the state and the country,” he pointed out. Referring to the Opposition morcha, Chavan said, “Even people like former police officer Sachin Vaze can also be part of such an agitation. And, therefore, it calls for extra vigilance to defeat the Opposition’s devious campaign.”
The BJP leader slammed the Thackeray brothers, saying, “The Thackeray brothers use their oratory skills to entangle people in emotive issues like ‘Marathi Asmita (pride)’. They mislead people. Maharashtra has seen its worst days under Thackeray rule.”
He urged party workers to focus on the development work done by the Fadnavis government. “It was the late Bal Thackeray who said every poor should be entitled to a house. Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is fulfilling the dreams of Bal Thackeray,” Chavan said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mumbai BJP president Amit Satam said, “The Opposition should do introspection as to why people are rejecting them in elections. Instead, the Opposition is taking recourse to spreading lies through protest morchas. In the local bodies elections, the people of Maharashtra will pack the Opposition back to their homes. Knowing this, Opposition leaders are trying to find an excuse for defeat. As they know they will have nothing to react to post poll results.”
BJP minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said it was time to expose the double standards of the Opposition. “When opposition parties win polls they hail democracy. But when they taste defeat they blame EVM,” he added.
