Gangster Anmol Bishnoi, who masterminded the conspiracy to murder NCP leader and former minister Baba Siddique, was constantly in touch with men who carried out the assassination and motivated them with promises of a flat, car and Rs 5 lakh in advance, according to the chargesheet filed by the Mumbai Police.
The chargesheet states that Anmol Bishnoi, currently detained in the US and wanted in the case, led an organised crime syndicate whose members carried out Siddique’s assassination on October 12, 2024. There are a total of 26 arrested accused in the case aged between 19 and 43, with a majority of them in their early 20s.
Police claim that Anmol maintained regular contact with the accused through social media platforms such as Snapchat and Instagram. Among them was Shubham Lonkar, a wanted accused who publicly claimed responsibility for the murder in a social media post.
Using confessional statements and digital evidence, investigators detailed Bishnoi’s role in orchestrating the crime. In one recovered conversation, Anmol allegedly instructed the accused to conduct reconnaissance near Siddique’s Bandra residence, promising rewards for their efforts.
“Ram Ram bhai log, aap sabko Lawrence bhai ne bhi Ram Ram bolne ko bola hai. Kya chal raha hai? Apne ko ek kaam karna hai, himmat rakho. Bandra mey ghar ke paas recce karna hai, ussi area mey ek ghar bhaade se le lo. Apna kaam hone ke baad ek four-wheeler gaadi aur ek flat har ek ko milega…usse pehle Rs 5 lakh advance dunga. Apne bhai ka badla lena hai. Apne ko apne dharam ke liye jeene ka hai… (Ram Ram brothers. Lawrence bhai [Anmol’s brother, gangster Lawrence Bishnoi] has also asked me to say hello to you all. You have to do one job, keep courage. You have to conduct recce in Bandra and take a house on rent in the same area. If you do the job, each one of you will be given a car, a flat and Rs 5 lakh advance. We have to revenge for our brother. We have to live for our dharam),” states part of conversation disclosed by an accused.
Police claimed that this conversation took place between Lonkar and Anmol, on speaker phone, in the presence of three other co-accused.
According to the chargesheet, Anmol framed the murder as revenge for the death of his associate Anuj Thapan, who allegedly died by suicide in May 2024 while in custody after being arrested for firing at actor Salman Khan’s residence. Police believe Siddique was targeted for his close association with Khan. The gang reportedly intended to spread fear, assert their dominance, and establish an extortion racket in Mumbai.
The chargesheet also links Anmol to an earlier firing at Salman Khan’s house in April 2024, allegedly driven by anger over Khan’s involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case — a revered symbol for the Bishnoi community. Police claim to have found recorded conversations linking Bishnoi to the accused in that case as well.
The chargesheet reveals that Snapchat usernames and account details were recovered from the seized phones of the accused, along with images of weapons, ammunition, location snapshots, and photos of Siddique’s residence and office. It also includes evidence of the accused conducting firing practice.
The chargesheet filed in the case earlier this month names 26 arrested accused and three wanted accused. The chargesheet also includes confessional statements of some of the arrested accused. One of them has said that the conspiracy was hatched from before June and the accused had rented a flat in Kurla in August and would conduct recce of Siddique’s office and home, trying to figure out their routine to be able to carry out the attack.
