Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray on Sunday alleged serious irregularities in the draft voters’ list for Mumbai, accusing the State Election Commission (SEC) of “anti-national and anti-democratic” conduct ahead of the December 2 local body polls.

In a post on X, Thackeray said the draft list was officially published and uploaded on November 20. However, when a party functionary purchased an official copy from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s central election office a day earlier, the document showed a publication date of November 14.

Thackeray said the voters’ list was earlier scheduled for release on November 7, then postponed to November 14, and eventually uploaded on November 20. The difference in dates, he claimed, raises questions about why the list was held back for nearly a week if it had indeed been finalised on November 14.

“Why did the EC hold back the list for a week? Were they waiting for any orders from political bosses?” he asked. He further alleged that the delay may have allowed “malpractice” to be introduced into the voter rolls, questioning who had access to the list during the period before it was made public.

Calling the discrepancy a “crime,” Thackeray accused both the central election office of the BMC and the SEC of undermining democratic processes. He added that the party plans to release “more evidence” of what he described as misconduct.
