27-year-old man held in theft case ‘dies by suicide’ inside lock-up: Mumbai police

The deceased was identified as Ankit Rao, who worked as a chef at a hotel near the Mumbai airport.

According to police, Rao, who lived in a shared accommodation, allegedly stole mobile phones belonging to his roommates.

Police said they had recovered three mobile phones from his possession during the investigation, following which he was arrested Sunday
Rao was to be produced before a court on Monday.

“However, around 6 am, he went to the bathroom and hung himself from a pipe there. When he did not come out for some time, the staff went to check and found him hanging,” a police official said.
