National Students Union of India (NSUI),the students wing of the Congress,will start its membership drive again in the colleges of Punjab so as to elect student leaders at district and later at a state level. This was announced by Amrita Johal,general secretary of NSUI who is also the president of Punjab wing,while taking a meeting of the Ludhiana wing.
Johal said,Already,our students wings in Ludhiana,Ferozepur,Faridkot,Moga and Amritsar are functioning well,but we have to revive the wings in rest of the cities and also to increase membership in the present cities as well.
Amritpal Shourie,vice-president of Ludhiana wing,admitted that many colleges had banned student elections,but added,We will try our best to revive membership drive,after all we are here to fight for a cause of the students. The elections of the NSUI district wings however will now be held on lines of Youth Congress elections. So we have to be active from now onwards to increase more members from the colleges.
Shourie added that although it is a political wing,but claimed that the aim of the wing was to make students aware of their rights and also to give them knowledge about their electoral rights and much more.
