Gang of bookies betting on cricket busted, 6 held

The Ludhiana police busted a gang of bookies for betting on cricket matches on Monday.

The accused were involved in betting on the T20 cricket match between Australia and Pakistan on Sunday.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (crime) Jaswinder Singh told a press conference that Inspector Rajan Parminder Singh, incharge at CIA staff-1, raided a house on Chandigarh road on Sunday following a tip-off and nabbed six accused.

The accused were identified as Amit Malhotra alias Tikka of Janakpuri, Jatinder Singh alias Honey of Khurana Colony, Sanjay Kumar of Daresi Road, Vaibhav Verma alias Vishu of Joshi Nagar of Haibowal, Amit Kumar of New Madhopuri and Rajesh Chopra alias Rahul of Guru Nanak Dev Nagar, Haibowal.

The police also recovered one mini-exchange, 29 mobile phones, two recorders, a laptop, a data card, television set, 17 notebooks and Rs 1.15 lakh in cash from the spot.

A case under sections 420, 467, 468, 471 of the IPC and sections 13A, 13, 67 of the Gambling Act was registered against them at division number 7 police station.
