High drama was witnessed outside the MC’s Zone-D office today afternoon when family members of one temporary driver,Amritpal Singh Happy, sat on a dharna outside the office.

Happy was reportedly depressed and had been ill today. While he died of his illness, his family blamed the corporation for his death. Happy was not given his salary for the last 4-5 months by the corporation and his family members said this had plunged him into a state of depression, which resulted in his death.

They demanded a job for one family member of his house which was denied by additional commissioner KP Brar. The family however sat on dharna with the body of Happy.

The protesters came with the support of SAD leader Amarjit Bhatia.

Brar however said,“He was not on MC rolls,we had sent his case for regularisation to the state government. The state government in fact had abolished these temporary posts and that’s why their salaries were also not coming. There are 25 more such employees. So he was not the only one.”

Brar added,“Once the government clears the salaries, they will be given to the family, otherwise we cannot do anything as of now.”
