The medical camp for chicken box vaccination cost a Delhi-based NGO dear when two persons were arrested on Thursday evening after the vaccine caused skin allergies in more than a dozen kids in Basti Jodhewal area.
Basti Jodhewal police registered an FIR against the culprits and arrested Anil Kumar and Neeraj who were sent to jail by the court on Friday.
According to the statements given to the police,Anil who claims to be a BAMS doctor,stated that he had no idea about the quality of the medicine and was employed by the NGO at Rs 300 per day for conducting the medical camp while Neeraj – a women employee – was employed for Rs 200 per day.
SHO Basti Jodhewal Jatinderjit Singh said,We took quick action against the organisers and have intimated the health department.
Drug inspector Sanjeev Garg however said,We have sent samples of the vaccination to Chandigarh laboratory for tests and the results will be available in a week or two. Information further revealed that as per rules,permission has to be sought from the health department before organising a medical camp,which the concerned organiser never did.
No new patients have come to our dispensary on Friday. The ones who presented skin allergies took treatment from private clinics, Garg added.
Anil Kumar was giving homeopathic drug to the kids for chicken pox.
This medicine was being given for Rs 100 each while as per the organisers,the medicine costs more than Rs 1,600 in the open market.
Residents informed that the medical camp was in the area for more than three days but when kids started developing skin allergies on Thursday,they started winding up operations.
