Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Friday claimed that he had not received the invitation for the Ayodhya Ram Temple ‘pran pratishtha’ (consecration) ceremony so far, alleging that the Opposition parties were being humiliated by the BJP in the name of Lord Ram.
“Bhagwan Shri Ram ke naam par hum logon ko apmanit na karen (do not humiliate people in the name of Lord Shri Ram),” said Akhilesh while addressing mediapersons in Lucknow.
The former chief minister added, “I have not received any invitation through courier. I checked it at home as well as the party office and asked to inform me if someone received it … we should get the receipt so as to track the courier. Invites are not handed over to someone on the road just like that.”
The SP chief said while Swami Vivekananda talked about service to the poor and deprived sections, the BJP instead has adopted the route of creating a divide among people and not that of tolerance.
On the four ‘Shankaracharyas’, the top Sanatan dharam spiritual leaders, deciding to not attend the consecration ceremony on January 22, Yadav said that they
led the Hindu dharma and people drew knowledge from them. “Will the BJP now come up with allegations that they (Shankaracharyas) are not Sanatanis (Sanatan followers)?” he asked.
Whether an invitation for the consecration ceremony was sent to the SP chief, Vishva Hindu Parishad national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said, “I cannot confirm whether the invitation has been delivered to him or not. But his name is in the list of invitees.”
