On completion of the first year of his second term as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that Uttar Pradesh will no more be known for rioters, mafias, gunda raj (rule of criminals) and jungle raj (lawlessness), but as a state of festivals and celebrations.

Addressing mediapersons at an event in Lucknow to mark the first anniversary of the BJP government’s second term, Adityanath said: “Yeh Uttar Pradesh upadraviyon ke liye nahin, utsavon ke pradesh ke roop me maana jayega. Uttar Pradesh mafias ke liye nahi, mahotsav ke liye maana jayega. UP gunda raj, mafia raj aur jungle raj jaise shabd ab ateet ke shabd ban jayenge, UP vikas ki nayi bulandiyon ko chuvehga (Uttar Pradesh will no more be known for rioters and mafias. It will be known for festivals and celebrations. Words like gunda raj, mafia raj and jungle raj will become of the past and the state will touch new heights of development).”

“This is the same UP which was thought to have nepotism, corruption and riot every second or third day… Uttar Pradesh has become riot-free in six years and strengthened its infrastructure,” he added.

Claiming that the perception of Uttar Pradesh has changed in the last six years since he became the chief minister of the state, Adityanath, who has become the state’s longest-serving chief minister in continuity, said: “Today, no one thinks negatively about UP. People’s faces light up when they hear about UP. Six years ago, people used to look with suspicion when they heard about UP. This change in perception is one of the biggest achievements of the double-engine government.”

The double-engine government refers to the BJP government at the Centre and state.

Deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, BJP’s state unit president Bhupendra Chaudhary and other members of the state Cabinet and party leaders were present on the occasion where a booklet — “6 Saal-UP Khushhaal” (6 years – Happy UP) – listing the government’s achievements in the past six years, and a poster titled ‘Nai Udaan-Nai Pehchaan’ and ‘Expressway Pradesh’, were also released.

Promising the people that the legacy and identity of UP will be carried forward with a “new aura” in every sector, the chief minister said that more than 20 lakh youths have been given tablets and smartphones to make them “technically empowered”. “We could make two crore youths technically competent,” he added.

“There is no district in the state from where people have not got government jobs… When the selection process is completed, I check and ask (officers) to tell me whether youths from every district are there on the list or not. Youths from every district get space without any discrimination,” the CM said, adding that the process of recruitment of 1.64 lakh police personnel was “completed in a transparent manner”.

Adityanath said that with a stable government, the administration has also been stable.

“Unlike in the past, when officials were shuffled like a pack of cards, district magistrates and superintendents of police are completing their full terms in the districts… If there is no stability in the government and administration, we cannot perform. It is because of the strength of the double-engine government and the stability, all sections of society are getting the benefits of the government’s schemes,” the CM said.

“The priorities of my government are not the caste, faith, religion, region and language, but villagers, farmers, the poor, youths and women. The government has honestly worked to extend the benefits of the welfare schemes to every section of the society,” he added.

Apart from highlighting the works done by his government in the past six years, Adityanath also presented a roadmap for the future. The CM said that work was going on at full speed in the Ganga Expressway project, which will connect west UP with central and east UP.  “So far, we have completed over 12 per cent work. We are trying that the project gets completed before the 2025 Prayagraj Kumbh so that devotees from west UP use the expressway to reach Kumbh,” the CM said.

He said that with Metro trains already operational in five cities of the state, efforts were being made to complete the first phase of the Metro project in Agra by November-December this year. He also announced that work on the Delhi-Meerut rapid rail project was almost complete and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate it to the nation next month.

“In the next two years, UP will be the first state in the country to have five international airports. Of that, three are already operational. International airports in Ayodhya and Jewar will be made operational by end of 2023,” he added.
