Campaigning for the urban local body elections in Saharanpur on Tuesday, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav said that the only issues the BJP keeps discussing is of “Hindu-Muslim” in order to divide the society and spread hatred.
Asked about the BJP’s promise of a crime-free state and women’s security at a press conference in Saharapur, Akhilesh said, “These topics are not for urban local body elections. You should ask the chief minister what he has done for solid waste management. He will answer with ‘tamancha’. If you ask him about sewage, he will say ‘tamancha’. If you ask about traffic management, he will say ‘tamancha’. If you ask why inflation and unemployment rate are so high, he will say ‘tamancha’. What will you expect from such a CM…. As far as women’s safety is concerned, I was in Gorakhpur recently. A day before, a daughter who came from Bihar’s Buxar was raped by three men. The man who immolated himself near the CM’s residence is dead after he raised his voice against a (BJP) MLA… and then the CM says the law-and-order situation is better. He calls others mafia. Had the cases against him not withdrawn, his chargesheet would have been very long.” “Who benefits from Hindu-Muslim riots or fights? Whose language is bad? They are the same people who had cases against them,” he said.
Interestingly,RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary didn’t campaign or attend the press conference held by Akhilesh on Tuesday. RLD leaders, however, were present with Akhilesh, who held a roadshow for SP’s Saharanpur mayoral candidate Noor Hasan Malik.
Chandrashekhar said that smart cities exist on paper and not on the roads. “If someone raises a question, they are booked in cases,” he said.
