A DSP, who was posted as the ACP in Kanpur, has been booked on charges of entering into a sexual relationship with a female student of IIT-Kanpur, making a false promise of marriage. The accused, Mohammad Mohsin Khan, has been booked under BNS Section 69 (having sexual relationship with a woman using deceitful means or making fake promise for marriage).
The accused, a 2013 Provincial Police Service (Uttar Pradesh) batch officer, secured admission at IIT-Kanpur as a PhD scholar in July this year, police said on Thursday. Khan was removed from his posting and attached to the police headquarters, Lucknow, on Thursday.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Law & Order,) Kanpur, Harish Chander told The Indian Express that the woman initially filed a complaint with the administration of IIT-Kanpur. The administration, while conducting an internal inquiry, informed the Kanpur Commissioner of Police about the matter two days ago. A preliminary inquiry was done and the woman filed a police complaint on Thursday, he added.
In her complaint, the woman said that she met Khan at the institute. She alleged that he hid the fact that he is married and started a relationship with her, promising marriage. When she later came to know about his marriage and raised an objection, he promised to divorce his wife, Chander said, citing the complaint.
On the basis of the woman’s complaint, the Commissioner directed that an FIR be registered against the ACP. A report was also sent to DGP Prashant Kumar.
Chander added that a three-member SIT has been formed.
