The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday suspended a 2014-batch IPS officer, Ankit Mittal, following an inquiry into allegations of “domestic violence” and other “misconduct” levelled by his wife.
The state government took the action on the basis of an inquiry conducted into a complaint by Mittal’s wife.
Mittal, originally from Sonipat, Haryana, was transferred from the position of Superintendent of Police in Gonda last December. He was subsequently posted at the Police Training Centre in Chunar, Mirzapur.
A senior government official said on Monday, “Ankit’s wife filed a complaint with the government, alleging domestic violence and also claiming that he was involved in an extramarital affair. The government got an inquiry done.”
Mittal, born in 1989, holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. He has previously served in Rampur and Chitrakoot districts.
In July 2022, an FIR was registered against Mittal and 12 others for their alleged involvement in the fake encounter of a wanted criminal in Chitrakoot in 2021. The move came following court orders on the basis of a complaint filed by the deceased Bhalchand Yadav’s wife, Nathunia, of Satna district.
The police had then claimed that Bhalchand, alias Bhai Chandra (40), was a key member of dacoit Gauri Yadav’s gang, which is active in the ravines of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
