To promote tourism in villages, the state cabinet on Tuesday approved the Rural Tourism Policy. It also decided to revive the Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme for girl students in a new format.
With approval to the Rural Tourism Policy, the state tourism department will now identify villages close to tourist spots for their development. Under this policy, the department will select only three villages every year and the government will sanction a maximum of Rs 1 crore for the development of tourist spots in these villages. Old havelis and buildings constructed before 1950 will be selected and a maximum of Rs 5 lakh will be spent on their renovation and beautification.

Under the revised Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme, a merit list will be prepared for all girls who have cleared UP Board, CBSE and ISC exams from each district. Earlier, every girl who passed intermediate examination, was given a cash grant of Rs 30,000.
Now, only 99,000 girl students will get the grant. This will include minorities (20 per cent) and SC and ST (21 per cent). The overall budget for the scheme is Rs 300 crore.
While 75 per cent of beneficiaries will be from UP Board, 25 per cent will be from CBSE and ISC. Out of this 25 per cent, 75 per cent will be from CBSE and the rest from ISC.
Other decisions
1. Retirement age of employees of Remote Sensing Application Centre increased from 58 to 60 years.
2. Class III employees of Vidhan Sabha to be provided CUG mobile SIM.
3. Nod to include Shukdev Prasad Tripathi Smarak Sanskrit Vidyapeet in Kushinagar in the grant aid list.
