Both Jagannath and Netra were severely injured in the attack, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Suhas Bhavche.Police said that enraged by these incidents, Sarman allegedly strangled his grandson on October 4 with his hands

Angered that his eight-year-old grandson was stealing from him, a farmer allegedly strangled the child to death in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi.

Police said the accused, Sarman (50), has been arrested.

During questioning, police said Sarman told them that his daughter-in-law and grandson would frequently take things away from his room. He alleged that he had even caught the child stealing money.

Police said that enraged by these incidents, Sarman allegedly strangled his grandson on October 4 with his hands. He then hid the body in a room used to store fodder and went to the field.

According to police, the boy’s father, Rajvendra, lodged a complaint stating that his son had gone missing on the evening of October 4 and that the family had searched for him everywhere but failed to find him.

Based on the complaint, a case of kidnapping was registered and an investigation was launched. Police initially searched outside, accompanied by Sarman, and later looked inside the house. There, they discovered the body in a storeroom. A forensic team was called to the spot, and the body was sent for post-mortem.

When the autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was strangulation and there were no signs of any outsider entering the house, police turned their focus to family members.

During questioning, police said Sarman admitted to the crime. “He alleged that his daughter-in-law often quarreled with his wife. He said the daughter-in-law and grandson would take away items from his room. He also claimed that the child had stolen about Rs 1,500 from him so far,” said Sarita Mishra, Station House Officer, Lahchaura police station.
